Charlie finally fits the exersaucer! We put it together a week ago and he has really taken to it. We still have to use blankets to pad the seat, but Charlie is captivated by all the attachments. And it gives us about 10 minutes to fold laundry, fix food or take out the dogs.

Four Months, Five Days
Yesterday, Charlie had his four month check up with the doctor. He continues to do very well and the doctor said that Marc and I are doing a good job. Again, more vaccines - Rotavirus, Pneumococcal, Hib (a flu vaccine), Polio and DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis.) And again, the nurse was shocked at how Charlie sucked down the oral vaccine.
Charlie's head is 16.25 inches, and is in the 25th percentile. I asked if this was a concern because at his last check up it was 15.25 inches - in the 50th percentile. It's not. His head will catch up :-).
At our last check up, Charlie weighed 12 pounds and 13 ounces - the 75th percentile for his age. He remains in that percentile weighing 15 pounds and 15 ounces. We really thought he weighed more - if you carry him around you would think so, too!
But the news is Charlie's height. It is literally off the chart. At two months, he was 25 inches tall, in the 95th percentile. Today he is 27 3/8 inches and is over the 100 percentile. His height is average for a 7 or 8 month old.
So now we branch out from rice cereal. Charlie will try out some sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, squash, bananas and avocado. Not all at once, of course. Get ready for some colorful pictures!

Whaaahhhhh!
I don't remember what was wrong, but it must have been serious.
See the tears? Must have been real serious.
Like dinner was a minute late.

Let's Give it Another Try
Grandma Dot decided to give the rice cereal another try. She fed him some milk first and then fed the cereal.
He liked it! (And ate the entire bowlful.)

Bumpo Sitting
Charlie is now able to sit in the bumbo (or bumpo, as it is pronounced around here) seat for 10-15 minutes at a time. He loves it!
He likes to sit in the kitchen and talk to me while I cook and he likes to watch the dogs and see what Lullabelle and Sandy are up to.

Shhh
I may have mentioned this before, but Charlie is a natural in the car. Give him a minute and he is fast asleep. He may complain if we get stopped at a red light, but as long as the car is moving, he is snoozing!

Droolin'
Lately Charlie is a droolin' fool. See the glisten on his chin? it's a constant around here. We don't see any teeth yet, but with this amount of drool they can't be too far away from making an arrival.

Hope He Used Deoderant
Today, Charlie decided the best place to nap was with his face planted in Marc's underarm. When Marc tried to move him, Charlie gave some screams that rivaled when he got his first vaccination shots. So we left him there! Good thing Marc was freshly showered :-)

A Few Things
Charlie experienced his first snow on Sunday! No pictures, because it was just too cold. But he saw it in the car to and from lunch with Grandma Dot and Papa Kirby and when he walked in and out of the Outback Steakhouse.
Monday, Charlie tried rice cereal for the first time. I've been putting it in his milk for a few days, but this was the first time with a spoon. He was not a fan. Charlie couldn't just suck it down like in the bottle. It took too long - he would scream in between spoonfuls. Next time we will have a bottle first and then try the cereal.
On a non-Charlie related note, it is Fun with Septic Systems around here. We are lucky that the problem is with the distribution box and drain field and not the septic tank itself. There's no sewage backing up in the house and we can still shower, flush and wash clothes. But I was hoping that Santa would be bringing me something fun, not more drain fields.

Charlie Loves. . .
The mobile on his crib. It's a hand-me-down from his cousins, and Charlie is so grateful to now have it. If we need to put him down for a while, we can lay him in the crib, turn it on and he will talk and talk and talk to it.
He also loves to try and suck both thumbs at the same time while watching the mobile.

Rolling Over
He hasn't made it all the way over yet, but on December 4 Charlie half-rolled while playing on his mat.

Thanksgiving 2010-The Aftermath
Charlie is GREAT in the car. Give him 2 minutes and he is snoozin' soundly. He napped almost the entire trip to Macon (which is about two hours.) But the trip back to Athens was different. After about 45 minutes, he woke up screaming. The wails coming from the back seat were heartbreaking! I knew it had to be gas or a dirty diaper, neither of which I could fix until we got to a good stopping spot. So poor, pitiful Charlie had to scream (and his grandparents had to listen) for about 10 minutes. Which, of course, felt like hours. Once we hit the first gas station, I discovered that poop was indeed the culprit. It was up his back and all over his cute little Thanksgiving outfit. I had to strip him down and wipe him off and Marc had to get a picture of his cute little tushy.

Please, Please Sleep!
Sometimes when Charlie fights sleep, we cover the top of his head and eyes with a burp cloth. For some reason, it relaxes him almost immediately and he heads off to snooze-land.

Poor Girl
While Lullabelle loves Charlie, every now and then she feels a little left out. Occasionally she will demand some attention, and Marc is happy to oblige.
