Baby's got bruises!

Rosie's First ER Visit

Last night Rosie slipped off her mini trampoline and landed face first into the tile floor.  Poor baby hit HARD and her tooth cut through the inside of her mouth to her lip.  There was a lot of blood that freaked us both out.  Marc and Charlie were at soccer and after a facetime, we decided to meet at the ER.  Luckily, no stitches, just a little dermabond!

 This morning she went off to school like it was no big deal.

But today after school there was more bruising on my pretty girl's face.

Four Years, Twenty Two Days

Rosie had her four year check up today, and she continues to be perfectly, wonderfully healthy.  She is 3 feet, 2.75 inches tall (26th percentile) and weighed 32pounds, 8 ounces (27th percentile.)  She received her DTaP vaccine MMRV vaccine, Polio and Chicken Pox vaccine.  It was only 2 shots but you would have thought Rosie was receiving 12.  I had to hold her down, basically by laying on top of her, while the nurse gave her the shots.  And Ro cried all the way back to day care.  The girl does not like a shot!

Charlie had his every-two-year trip to the cardiologist yesterday.  Everything is looking good!

Three Years, Fourteen Days

Rosie had her three year check up today. And at three, she is just perfect.

She is 3 feet, quarter inch tall and weighs 28 pounds.  She is in the 30th percentile, about where she has always been.  She refused to cooperate with the eye exam and was very shy at the beginning, but slowly warmed up to the doctor as the visit went on.  Her blood pressure, pulse and everything else are perfectly average.

Rosie is on target developmentally and the tubes are still in her ears.  We did get a referral to an ENT to look at her tonsils for her snoring and irregular breathing at night.  I hope we can get that looked at soon.

In all, Rosie is happy, healthy and wonderful!

Growing Up

Last week, Marc took Charlie to his appointment with his pediatric cardiologist for a check up.  I asked him to send me a picture.  When he did I got a little misty, because I couldn't believe how much my baby has grown.

Charlie's heart murmur continues to look fine.  It's still there, but not causing him any problems. 

So What Happened?

We've got a  healthy baby who might one day have high blood pressure.

The tests revealed that Charlie has a narrowing of the aorta as it enters the top of the heart.  If you look at the gray rendering of the heart in the flyer above,  the narrowing is highlighted in green.  This could cause high blood pressure, and if that were to happen, a little surgery would be needed to fix the narrowed aorta.

This happens in about 1 in 1000 kids, mostly male, and is a genetic condition.  Marc, despite his tremendous athleticism and affection for broccoli, has had high blood pressure.  As does my dad, so Charlie appears to get this honestly.  It won't interfere with him playing sports.  And if surgery is needed, the doctor said it is easier than having his tonsils out. (Which might happen down the road as well!)

While at the doctor for our third check up with this awful cold and never ending ear infection, Dr. Baker detected a heart murmur.  So Charlie is visiting a pediatric cardiologist today.

And speaking of the never ending ear infection, it's in both ears again and bad.  This time Charlie got a shot of antibiotics, and he'll get another one tomorrow.  If this doesn't clear it up, we move on to tubes in his ears.
