We Inturrupt the Christmas Posts For Breaking News
And not the good kind - Charlie has his first cold. I know this isn't ground breaking for most folks, but for us it has been stressful., especially as it happens after I go back to work.
Early Thursday, just after midnight, Charlie woke up with what sounded like a croupy cough. I propped him on a pillow for the rest of the night but he continued to have a rough, barky cough and a little rattle in his breathing. He was better during the day with my mom, and Thrusday night he slept okay. The coughing was productive but not as rough.
Friday he started to get a runny nose, too, but had no fever and was his usual happy self. But the doctor suggested we come in anyway to be sure. Evidentially with any wheezing I need to take him in to make sure its not in the lungs. And it wasn't. Dr. Baker said it was a cold virus that is going around and he should be better by Monday or Tuesday.
And while at the doctor, we weighed Charlie again - 16 pounds, 12 ounces. He was clothed, so 3 or 4 ounces could have been the diaper and outfit. But he still gained more than a half pound in 10 days!

Bad Santa?
Charlie began the evening in Pensacola in his Santa suit, but gradually shed it. He reminded me of the caricature of a drunken Santa. Of course, his was a milk-drunk!

Puppy!
Charlie wasn't the only new arrival in Pensacola. Aunt Judy got a puppy! And she brought Wiizie (as in the game system Wii and the character from Steel Magnolias) over for the Christmas celebration.
And while everyone else was rushing to hold and play with Charlie, Marc and I were all about the puppy.
He and Marc had a particularly good time, imitating each other's expressions.

Christmas in Pensacola
As we have for the past few years, we went to Pensacola to visit the LaMotte side of the family before Christmas. In an attempt to keep Charlie on a sleep schedule, Marc and I decided to go through his evening routine but would put him in the car seat instead of his crib and drive through the night. It was great for Charlie but we were pretty tired after a 2am arrival.
But on Christmas Eve, we had a great time with the family. We ate, drank, opened gifts and celebrated!

Back to the Grind
Today, I go back to work full time. I can't believe that the time has gone by so fast. I am so fortunate that I was able to work part time for almost four and a half months and spend all that time with my little man. And I know today I will cry several times. I never thought I would want to stay home with a baby all day, but Charlie has just been so wonderful.
We had lined up a nanny to share with my co-worker, but the week before Christmas she fell through. We are very lucky to have retired grandparents who are willing to come for a week at a time and care for Charlie while Marc and I investigate other options. So while I'll be at work, I know he is in very good hands.
And so as I go back to the office, my blog posting may happen a bit less. I will keep you updated on Charlie's events and adorableness, but it just won't be as often.

Look At What Charlie Can Do!
Charlie is getting very good at using his hands. The movement is not quite as spastic. This past weekend, he began to grab the paci and put it in his mouth all by himself!

The swing has long been a good place for Charlie to take a nap. Give him a good blanket and he is out for an hour or so.

What We Are Eating This Week
Sweet Potatoes!
I baked the sweet potatoes, then mixed them with a little rice cereal and breast milk with the fabulous immersion blender that Charlie got for Christmas. I froze them in an ice cube tray and now have individual servings ready to go with a short defrost.
And Charlie seems to love it!
