Charlie's First Trip to the Pool

Charlie loves his baths, so we figured that he would like the pool as much.

When he was in the float, he was more interested in people watching.  But once Marc took him out and started to play, Charlie lit up!

And then Charlie discovered that he could splash just like in the bath tub, and he had a blast!

What We Ate Last Week

Watermelon!

I mixed it with some banana and Charlie really liked it.  But it is a bit too watery to really be a good food for him right now.  I think I'll wait until he can chew pieces before we have some more.

Brush With Fame

Marc got to meet Kenny Powers!

Danny McBride came into town this Spring to promote his movie and signed autographs for UGA students.  Marc said he was really nice and easy to work with.  And you might have heard about his visit if you are a fan of TMZ.

I had a great idea to make Charlie a mini-Kenny Powers and get a picture with McBride.  I wanted to get dark curly doll hair and attach it to his baseball hat, and then put him in his baseball onesie.  Alas, I got the idea too late and didn't have time to pull it all together.  So we settled for a picture with Marc.

Snoozin' in the Crib

I know I've mentioned this before, but when Charlie got the horrid ear infection, he refused to sleep in his crib.  And all the cry himself to sleep advice I got?  didn't work.  Seriously, this is one stubborn little man.  He would scream until we came and got him.  Charlie wanted to be able to touch one of us while he slept.  And since he was in such ear misery, we gave in.  And it is so sweet to cuddle with Charlie!

Now that his ears are all clear, we have been working on the crib.  Charlie is getting pretty good at starting his night there.  Now we just have to get him to sleep there the entire night, preferably without getting up in the middle of it.

And check out his hair - it's looking kinda blonde. Looks like he didn't get Marc's curly locks.

9 Months, Two Days

Charlie had his 9 month check up today.  Lucky for him, it was a no-shot visit!  He is 30.5 inches tall and still over 100th percentile.  Charlie weighs 19 pounds and 6.5 ounces, which percentile-wise is down a bit - 45th percentile instead of 75th.  (This could have something to do with the fact that over the weekend, he had a virus and ate very, very little.)  Our doctor isn't worried because Charlies is 1.) more active and burning more calories and 2.) tall for his age.  We will still try to get his weight up a bit.  He still has a head that's on the smaller side, but you wouldn't know by looking at him that it is in the 20th percentile.

He is crawling and pulling up, and walking a bit while holding onto things.  Charlie can wave bye bye and says Dada to Marc (although sometimes it's dadadada) and knows I'm Mama, although he only says it when he's not happy.  So it's a mournful Maaamaaaa. The bottle is babababa and the dogs are a mix of dadada and papapa (for puppies, we think)  Charlie babbles a lot and so we know more words are coming. Not surprising considering his parents!

Toys Toys Toys

Charlie was blessed with a lot of hand-me-down toys from his cousins and a few new ones, too.  This one was from Cousin Hudson and Cousin Bowen and for many months has been a great decoration in the nursery.  But I noticed a marked improvement in Charlie's dexterity since the tubes and I thought I'd bring it out to the living room.  He really likes all the moving parts and I like that he can't but the parts in his mouth!

Zzzzzz

After a long day of playing and crawling, Charlie is always pooped out when we get home.  Sometimes a little nap is needed.  But usually not in the high chair. . .

Another Tooth!

Charlie's bottom tooth has a companion! It comes with a whole lotta drool.  (And be on the lookout for another post very soon about a top tooth.  It hasn't broken the gum yet but we can see the white about to push through.)

Peek-A-Boo

We've been playing peek-a-boo with Charlie for a while, but he has just started to respond.  Now when we play, he laughs and laughs.

Sorry for the rough camera work.  It isn't easy to film and peek-a-boo at the same time!

An Update

For those seven weeks of the ear infection, I think Charlie's body spent so much time fighting the infection that he didn't grow.  But since Charlie got the tubes in his ears, we have really noticed an improvement in him in general.  Teeth are coming in, he is crawling all over the place, he's gained a pound and is about a half inch taller.

He  has moved up a class at Little Prodigies (which is good - he was climbing all over those little babies!) and is in the Monet room (aka the Crawlers.)  All the other kids there are pulling up and most of the other 7 kids in there are walking, so I think Charlie will be learning a lot.  In fact, he has pulled up a couple of times in his crib.  He just can't figure out how to get back down.

Charlie is napping in his crib, although still not as much as he needs.  Instead of 2 two hour naps he gets maybe two 30 minute naps.  There is so much going on ay Little Prodigies and he doesn't want to be left out.  We are working on getting him to sleep and stay in the crib at bedtime.  Next up will be sleeping through the night.  (Both of those he did with no problem prior to the ear infection.)

It is amazing to watch him grow from a baby into a toddling little boy.

Eat More Chicken

Last weekend was the Stadion Classic at UGA.  As part of my job, I am tasked with inviting people to the President's Skybox on the 9th/18th green and making sure the box is staffed.  The weather was perfect, we had a great crowd and a UGA golf team member won. And the Chick-fil-A cow joined us.

(Cameras aren't allowed, so I snuck this shot with my phone.)

Charlie's First Twilight

Charlie didn't get to see the real bike races at his first Twilight Criterium, but he did get to see lots of fun kiddie things he will enjoy in a couple of years :-) There were also very cute big wheel and bike races for little kids.

And Marc and I enjoyed the adult goodies, which included beer, cheese steaks and funnel cakes.  And the funnel cake was GOOD.

Just a Swingin'

Grandma Dot and Papa Kirby also have a cool car swing.  I really think Charlie could have stayed in the swing all day.

What's That?

Spending Easter with papa Kirby and Grandma Dot means new and different toys.  Charlie was excited!

And we discovered that Charlie already loves trains.  I thought we had at least another year before that happened.
