Pitching a Fit

Who knows what went wrong - we could have said no to climbing on something, taken away a sippy cup or told him to leave Sandy alone.  Whatever it was, it sent him into a full-fledged, two-room fit.  So what does a good mom do?  Follow him with a camera, of course! It's rough being an 18-month old.

O-H!

If you aren't an Ohio State fan, you might not get this.  One person say O-H, the other says I-O.  Marc is one proud Buckeye when Charlie does the cheer.

24 Weeks

I am 24 weeks pregnant today. And this week I have been taken down by a head cold/allergies/miserableness.  The medicine I can take hasn't done a thing, so I've been reduced to a sniffling, eye watering, coughing, sore-throated miserable mess. And I haven't been sleeping well with the stuffy nose because if I lay on my left side my back hurts, but I can breathe and if I lay on my right side, my back is better but I can't breathe.  I was out half the day on Wednesday and all day on Thursday, because it's better to be miserable in pjs on the couch than at my desk.

Snuggle

During our weekend of the stomach bug,all Charlie wanted to do is lay on someone.  The vomit had stopped, but he still felt so puny that a good cuddle helped.

Once it hit Marc, he couldn't get off the couch.  He felt so bad, he didn't argue when Lullabelle got up with him.  While Marc was miserable, we had the happiest dog on the block!

Lemon Cake Disaster

I had a craving - I had to have lemon cake, and the kind I usually like at Wal.Mart had a funny aftertaste to it.  So I decided to make my own, using this recipe.  Followed the directions to a T.  This is what I got. And unfortunately, it tasted worse than it looked.

23 Weeks

I am 23 weeks pregnant today.  And I must have the second trimester energy surge, because I had an incredibly busy week, Charlie has decided 4:30 or 5:30am is a good time to wake up and am not about to drop.  I had two days where I could feel some growing and stretching in the belly and I have my full appetite. Although I do favor ice cream!

Charlie got his first 4 teeth when he was 6-7 months old, and then nothing for almost 9 months.  But in the past month, he has gotten 5 more, including 3 molars.  And this has made for a fussy, fussy little man.

Yesterday, Charlie went to his first Parent and Me class at a local gymnastics studio and he seemed to really like it.  There were two other kids in his class who also happen to be two little boys from his school class.  Charlie took to Coach Dave immediately, picked up pretty well on the activities and had fun jumping, running, tumbling, rolling and walking on a balance beam.

Valentine's Day

Yesterday, Charlie had a special day at Little Prodigies.  They invited parents to join the class for a special snack time. He also had a special bag to collect Valentines from his classmates and we had a little bouquet of flowers for each of his teachers.  In trying to remember all of that (and some milk) in the morning I forgot my camera.  So all these are taken on my blackberry.  Sorry for the blurry-ness.

Charlie was more concerned that I was strapping him in his chair and then leaving him.

Sugar cookies that we can decorate with icing and sprinkles?  Bring. It. On.

Getting help from Daddy

YUM!  He ate two, and then was on a sugar high for a couple of hours. Hope your day was just as fun!

I haven't mentioned that Sunday, Marc caught the bug that Charlie had and there were two miserable men in the house.  Turns out that  almost every one of Charlie's 16 classmates also got the bug, and a couple parents, too.  On Friday, only 10 of the 17 made it in, and by the end of the day there were only three kiddies left.

Playing Around

Charlie's new favorite place - only one head bump so far.

22 Weeks

I am 22 weeks pregnant today.  Friday I had a check up with my doctor and everything is going well.  Baby's heartbeat is good, but they had a hard time calculating it.  It was easy to find, but as soon as we heard it she moved.  What normally takes 10 seconds took almost two minutes because she was too busy to stay still for a sill heartbeat counter.  I've gained another 2.5 pounds, but only 7.5 overall this pregnancy.  In fact, I weigh as much now as I did when I got pregnant with Charlie.  But there is nothing to worry about.  Baby looks fine, and we know it is just due to how sick I was the first trimester and a half.

Charlie had a rough Thursday night.  He ate like normal and went to bed like he always does.  But he woke up at 9:30pm screaming and when Marc checked on him, he had thrown up in his bed.  Marc got him and I started taking the sheets off when Charlie threw up again in the hall.  And it splattered everywhere.  Marc bathed him while I cleaned.  And Charlie seemed fine, just upset.  So we went to my room to lay down, where he vomited again.  This time I bathed and Marc cleaned.  Charlie continued to get sick late into the night and we eventually trained him to lean over the trashcan.  Of course, by that time it was mostly just retching.  There is nothing sadder than Charlie crying with his head resting on the trashcan.

Charlie didn't sleep much, and Marc and I got even less.  It just seemed to be a 6 hour virus, because Friday he was okay.  He ate saltines and drank water.  But he was sooooo tired.  I went to work but came home early and he mostly just sat in my lap or laid on my shoulder.  He had played with Marc in the morning before his nap but had been less active in the afternoon.  He feel asleep in my lap at 6:15 and when we put him to bed, he slept for 13 hours.  Which meant I slept for almost 12.  Going to bed before 8pm on a Friday may not be cool, but it was fabulous!

Saturday it hit Charlie on the other end.  It started during his nap - the first one woke him up and when I went in to his room, Charlie said, in the most sad, pathetic voice, "Poopoo." We can't even tell you how many diapers we went through.  And just when we got his hiney clear of diaper rash, it's now raw. We are hoping today and this week brings us a healthier Charlie.

Throwing the Ball

Having been to a basketball game, Charlie no longer just puts the ball in the basket, he throws it.
And he makes it about a third of the time.  He is getting pretty good!

Charlie's First Basketball Game

A couple of weeks ago, we took Charlie to his first basketball game.  It was perfect - the game was after Charlie's nap but before he would get too hungry and several people from my office had to attend an event in Atlanta so we were able to get free tickets for really great seats.

Charlie loved it!  We thought he would kind of watch but not really pay attention.  I also had a secret fear he would get away from us and run onto the floor in the middle of the game. Instead he sat in our laps and intently watched the game (or Hairy Dawg or the bulldogs in the ads that run on the billboards) and ate a soft pretzel, popcorn and fruit chews we brought.

Watching Hairy Dawg

Go Dawgs!

Marc and I thought Charlie might make it to halftime, but he ended up lasting until the game was almost over. I think we have a basketball fan on our hands.

21 Weeks

I am 21 weeks pregnant today.  And I have been vomit free for over two weeks!  (Knocking on wood. . .)  The cravings have been very strong this week and include cake, Indian lentils and naan, cake, ice cream, Mexican queso dip, cake, doughnuts with chocolate icing and cake. I am hungry quite often - making up for lost time, I guess.

Now that we know Baby is a girl, we've been testing out some names to see what we like.  All of them have a family connection, and we have it narrowed down to 4 or 5.  We may decide before she is born or may wait and look at her like we did with Charlie.

Marc had a gig at Greensboro College this week and is preparing to showcase at some conferences in March.  Hopefully we can get his name and his funniness out there and he can book a few more gigs.  Charlie's diaper rash has cleared up for the most part but he was bitten twice this week at school.  Everyone's teething!  He has also started pointing at things and saying, "This is?"  Or maybe he's been saying it and I didn't realize what he was asking.  But I am now answering.  About half the time he asks again and the other half he repeats me with confidence.

CK: This is?
Me: This is a truck.
CK: TRUCK!

CK: This is?
Me: This is an Elephant.

Me: This is an Elephant.  He has dots on his feet.
CK: DOT!

Charlie and Daddy's Phone

Charlie has learned how to open Marc's phone - by sliding a little arrow.  So Marc had to add a password to keep the little man from randomly dialing numbers.  The funny thing is that Charlie will now go up to a tv with a ticker at the bottom and try to slide that, too.
