Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

Our last day at the beach, we weren't there very long.  Smoke from the fires in Jacksonville and the Okefenokee swamp blew into SSI and it looked like a think fog.

The Glass Door

Charlie is really good at "cruising" - walking around while holding onto things.  And he can stand as long as he has some support.  But for some reason, he could not figure out how to stand at the glass door.  He would squat and try to stand, but couldn't quite get it.  Until there was someone on the other side.

Gingersnaps!

Charlie had his first (and second, and third) gingersnap in SSI.  They were a hit.

I am sure he is wondering where these have been all his life.

Island Time

Charlie spent a little time in his beach pod, but quickly let us know he was ready to get out and explore.

He and Grandma played in the sand for a little while.

But then he discovered the ocean.  And then there was no stopping him.  No matter where we sat him, he made a beeline for the water.

And then!  Grandma took him out in the waves.  And boy, was that a blast!

(He had his tongue out like this most of the time. Don't know why.)

Traveling in Style

My parents have a great wagon that you can use to get your gear to and from the beach.  It's a pretty handy baby carrier, too.  Charlie did some serious flirting from this seat.

Fun at the Waterpark

On our second day, Charlie, Grandma Dot and I met Aunt Nancy at the water park in St. Simons.  We also got to spend time with my cousins Christy and Lindsey and their boys Jesse and Hinson.  (Trey was at summer camp and missed all the fun)

I am not a big fan of a water park, and I had not visited the new park in SSI.  But I was pleasantly surprised at how nice Neptune Park is.

There is a pool with a gradual slant to it, and Charlie had a BLAST crawling into the water.  He has no fear and loves to splash around.

And it was such fun to see Christy and Jesse . . .

. . .and Hinson, too!

Swimming with Grandma

The activity area is nice and small but full of fun.  Jesse and Hinson had a great time.  I look forward to next year, when Charlie can really enjoy it.

Beach!

Last week, Charlie and I went down to St. Simons and met Grandma Dot at the beach. While we missed Marc and Papa Kirby, we had a good time.

This wasn't Charlie's first trip to SSI - we went down when he was about a month old - but this is the first time he could really have fun.

We got down there mid day on Wednesday, and then I had a little work to do.  But after dinner, we made sure that we got our feet (and bottoms) wet.

(Warning - I took A LOT of pictures.  So be ready for several days of beach fun on the blog!)
